The Capital Department of Transport and Road Transport Infrastructure Development and Moscow Oleg Tabakov Theatre, subordinate to the capital To the Department of Culture, launched a new themed tram. It went into service on route A on August 17, Oleg Tabakov’s birthday, and will run between the Chistye Prudy metro station and the Kalitniki station of the second Moscow Central Diameter (MCD-2) until the end of 2026.

“On the instructions of Sergey Sobyanin, we continue to develop urban transport as an important part of the modern life of the capital. Thematic projects help make trips not only comfortable but also informative, revealing new pages of the history and culture of Moscow to passengers. I am confident that the tram ‘Metamorphoses of the Oleg Tabakov Theater’ will help Muscovites and guests of the capital learn more about the work of the great artist and the theater he created,” said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

Maksim Liksutov.

The design of the modern three-section tram model “Vityaz-Moscow” is dedicated to the history of the theater and its founder. The main symbol is the black and orange monarch butterfly — an image of change, development, and creative rebirth. Its colors echo the decor of the theater’s historical stage, while the patterns in the interior reflect key stages in the history of the Moscow Oleg Tabakov Theater.

Route A runs from Kalitniki station on the MCD-2 through the Proletarskaya and Novokuznetskaya metro stations, Paveletsky railway station, the Bolshoy Ustinsky Bridge, and the Boulevard Ring to the Chistye Prudy metro station. The tram connects several districts of the central part of the city and passes near important cultural and social landmarks of the capital.

During the trip, passengers will hear the voices of actors from the Moscow Oleg Tabakov Theater. Vladimir Mashkov, Dmitry Brodetsky, Marina Salakova, Ksenia Utekhina, Arina Avtushenko, Gordey Yashin, and Alena Morilova will announce stops and talk about the theater, its actors and performances, as well as about Moscow.

“Oleg Tabakov wrote: in order for a character to be interesting and believable, the actor, like a butterfly, needs to go through different stages in the development of the image — from the idea to the embodiment on stage. The theater he created has also come a long way — from a small studio for talented youth to one of the brightest troupes in our country. Today, on Oleg Tabakov’s birthday, the story of our theater becomes part of city life. This tram will tell about the performances and actors, and their voices will accompany passengers on their journey. I thank the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development of the city of Moscow for the opportunity to share this story with Muscovites and visitors to the capital,” said Vladimir Mashkov, artistic director of the Moscow Oleg Tabakov Theater.

The thematic tram “Metamorphoses of the Oleg Tabakov Theater” will run on route A until the end of 2026.
