Beijing, August 16 /Xinhua/ — The Ministry of Emergency Management of the People’s Republic of China has dispatched 13 emergency rescue teams to the city of Zhoukou in Henan Province, Central China, to assist in combating urban flooding, the above-mentioned ministry reported on Sunday.
Teams from the provinces of Henan, Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong, and Hunan arrived in Zhoukou and started pumping out water at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
According to the ministry, the total capacity of the water drainage is about 220 thousand cubic meters per hour.
Henan Province suffered from heavy rains caused by the remnants of Typhoon Dolphin, the 13th of this year, which made landfall in eastern China last Sunday.
After heavy rain on Thursday in Zhoukou, a dam broke on the Jialu River, a tributary of the Sha River. The width of the breach was about 117 meters. The breach was repaired on Saturday evening.
