Beijing, August 15 /Xinhua/ — An important step toward green modernization was taken in China on Saturday as the landmark Environmental Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China came into effect, further strengthening the legal foundation for the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature.
The code was adopted in March at the 4th session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) and became the second official code of China after the Civil Code.
It consists of 5 sections and includes 1,242 articles. The sections cover areas such as pollution control, environmental protection, as well as green and low-carbon development, etc.
This Code was developed as a result of the systematic integration, generalization, revision, and refinement of more than 30 laws in the field of ecology and environment, over 100 administrative provisions, and more than 1000 local laws and regulations.
On Saturday, China also celebrated the 4th National Ecology Day under the motto “strengthening the green foundation of Chinese modernization.”
