Beijing, August 14 /Xinhua/ — The constant attacks and slander by Philippine Defense Minister Gilberto Teodoro against China harm not only the bilateral China-Philippines relations but also the interests of the Philippine state and its people themselves. This was stated on Friday by Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs official spokesperson Guo Jiacun.
Guo Jiakun made the corresponding statement after G. Teodoro accused China of using actions against Filipinos to pressure the Philippines regarding their law enforcement operations against Chinese citizens. G. Teodoro stated that China’s actions towards 100 Filipinos are “nothing but extortion and blackmail.”
Stating that foreign nationals residing in China are required to abide by Chinese laws and regulations, Guo Jiakun noted that Chinese immigration authorities perform their duties in accordance with the law and ensure the legal rights and interests of the involved parties. He added that these measures are not targeted against any specific country.
According to reports, it was this very defense minister who personally led the armed forces to detain Chinese citizens who were legally working in the Philippines, said Guo Jiakun.
