Beijing, August 13 /Xinhua/ — Three Chinese researchers were announced on Thursday in Beijing as the laureates of the 2026 Future Science Prize for scientific achievements.
Zhang Hong, a research fellow at the Institute of Biophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, received the Life Sciences Award for his pioneering contributions to uncovering the mechanisms of autophagy and physiological functions characteristic of multicellular organisms.
Professor Zhao Dongyuan from Fudan University was awarded the prize in physical sciences for his work on mesoporous materials—solid substances containing tiny pores. These materials are indispensable in catalysis, energy conversion and storage, as well as in biomedicine. Zhao Dongyuan developed innovative synthesis methods, studied the mechanisms of their formation, and found ways to apply them in industry.
The laureate of the award in the field of mathematics and computer science was Professor Yuan Xingyi from Peking University, honored for his fundamental contribution to arithmetic geometry.
The Future Science Prize, established in 2016 on the initiative of a group of scientists and entrepreneurs, is awarded for original research in fundamental sciences. Since its inception, a total of 49 scientists have become laureates of the prize. –0–
