Zhengzhou, August 12 /Xinhua/ — In Henan Province [Central China], more than 65,000 residents have been evacuated and emergency response measures have been strengthened amid ongoing heavy rains across the province caused by Typhoon Dolphin. Local authorities reported this on Wednesday.
At 07:30 on Wednesday, the provincial authorities raised the heavy rain warning to “red” — the highest level in China’s four-tier warning system. According to the meteorological observatory of Henan province, from 08:00 on August 12 to 08:00 on August 13, heavy rains are expected over a large area north of the Huaihe River, accompanied by short-term downpours, thunderstorms, and squally winds.

According to the authorities, more than 50,000 people have been mobilized in Henan province to date, and over 3,800 emergency response teams have been formed from them. In the areas affected by the typhoon, classes at educational institutions, commercial activities, and non-essential outdoor work have been suspended. Residents have been urged to avoid flooded areas and to leave their vehicles immediately if they stall in the water.
“Dolphin,” which became the 13th typhoon of this year, made landfall twice on August 9 in Zhejiang Province /Eastern China/.
