Section of the M-4 “Don” highway
In the Voronezh region, specialists have begun preparatory work for the major overhaul of the section of the federal highway M-4 “Don” from kilometer 482 to 492. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
“Today we face an ambitious task of comprehensive territorial development, a solution to which is impossible without a developed road network. In particular, we are implementing large-scale infrastructure projects to strengthen the road framework. These include not only the construction of new express highways but also the modernization of existing roads. This increases the transport accessibility of the regions and their investment attractiveness, reduces travel time for freight and passenger transportation. This directly affects dynamic socio-economic development and the improvement of Russians’ quality of life. Thus, preparatory work has begun on the capital repair of a 10-kilometer section in the Ramonsky district of the Voronezh region on the M-4 “Don.” It is currently one of the busiest sections in the region, with seasonal traffic intensity exceeding 80 thousand vehicles per day. Due to construction and installation works, its capacity will significantly increase as they provide for widening the carriageway to three lanes in each direction. This is especially important for motorists when leaving Voronezh,” said Marat Khusnullin.
According to the head of the state company “Avtodor,” Vyacheslav Petushenko, the major overhaul of the M-4 “Don” highway will be carried out in stages.
“Initially, the work to improve the technical condition of the section from kilometer 482 to 492 is planned to be carried out in the direction towards Moscow, and then towards Voronezh from kilometer 482 to 486. They will be performed without closing the traffic to maintain the current traffic flow intensity. At the same time, at certain stages, temporary narrowing of the roadway is possible, so drivers should be more attentive and take possible difficulties into account. Upon completion of the construction and installation works, the facility will meet modern loads and user requirements, the quality of the road surface of the section will improve, and its service life will be extended. Thanks to this, users’ road trips will become more comfortable and safer. The completion of the entire scope of major repairs is planned for November 2027,” noted Vyacheslav Petushenko.
