Active preparation for the new road season is underway in Russia. In particular, specialists are inspecting asphalt concrete plants and laboratories, conducting tests of materials used in construction and installation works. There are over 900 asphalt concrete plants located in 84 regions, which are involved in the national project “Infrastructure for Life.”

“Within the framework of the updated six-year road activity plan, large-scale tasks stand for the renewal of the road network. Despite existing complexities and challenges, we continue to work on increasing the connectivity of territories, ensuring road safety, and improving convenience of movement. For the successful implementation of the planned tasks, it is critically important to use quality materials, which in turn requires uninterrupted and technologically sound operation of asphalt concrete plants. By 2026, more than 900 such enterprises will be involved for the purposes of the national project.””Today, a thorough inspection of equipment and technical documentation is being conducted — the most important stage in preparing for the upcoming season,” reported Deputy Chairman of the Government Marat Khusnullin.

In addition, it is important to fully provide the necessary material supplies required for the performance of construction and installation works.

“The durability of the road pavement directly depends on the materials necessary for the production of mixtures. These are crushed stone, sand, bitumen, mineral powder, additive-modifiers, etc. This year, as part of achieving the targets of the national project on the regional and local road network, it is planned to arrange about 148 million square meters of pavement layers, of which 140.1 million square meters are under the federal project “Regional and Local Road Network.” Procuring the necessary volume of materials allows ensuring the full implementation of the road works program.””It is equally important that these materials meet all modern requirements and standards, so careful attention is also paid to checking their quality,” noted Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin.

One more important stage of preparation for the road season is the formation of the list of future repair sites and timely contracting.

“Advance contracting allows contracting organizations to plan the schedule for work at sites in advance and carry out the entire set of preparatory activities. Thus, as of April 1, the regions – participants in the national project ‘Infrastructure for Life’ – have completed contracting more than 80% of facilities in the regional and local road network included in the 2026 work program,” emphasized the Deputy Head of the Federal Road Agency, Kairat Tursunbekov.

In the Kursk region, 12 asphalt concrete plants will operate. It is expected that in the upcoming road season they will produce more than 1 million tons of asphalt concrete mixture.

The first enterprise to start operating is located in the Yubileyny settlement. The factory’s output is about 240 tons of mixture per hour. In 2026, its capacity will be used in the course of work on 16 sites of the national project in six districts of the region, among the largest is a 9-kilometer section of the Kursk – Kastornoye highway in the Sovetsky district.

Active preparatory activities have started in the Udmurt Republic as well. Here, it is planned to launch 14 asphalt concrete plants for the road season.

So, at one of the enterprises in Izhevsk, specialists have already begun monitoring the incoming inert materials for work – gravel, crushed stone, sand, bitumen. All of these are indispensable components for creating various asphalt concrete mixtures. Currently, the plant is closing its need for the production of cast and cold asphalt concretes for pothole repairs. With the onset of stable warm weather, the enterprise will switch to the production of hot asphalt concretes.

These are modern, fully computerized factories where humans are excluded from the technological process. Operators see the entire material production process on the monitor, so the human factor is absent.

In the Samara region, diagnostics and commissioning of asphalt concrete plants are also carried out, checking the technical readiness of road equipment. At the future repair site, specialists set up work camps and organize the delivery of inert materials – sand and gravel. To ensure safety during the work period, temporary road signs and information boards are installed.
