Beijing, August 7 /Xinhua/ — Chen Xi, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense of the People’s Republic of China, on Friday sharply criticized Japan’s reckless efforts to remilitarize, calling them a real threat to regional peace and stability.
Chen Xi made this statement at a press briefing in response to a question regarding Japan’s recent missile tests and the Japanese Defense Minister’s statement that long-range missiles would become part of the country’s counteroffensive capability.
Chen Xi noted that Japan’s actions in rapidly developing offensive weapons are becoming increasingly reckless and dangerous, requiring heightened vigilance from countries in the region.
According to an official representative, the so-called “security threat from neighbors” is merely a pretext for the Japanese side to break free from the constraints of the pacifist constitution and “exclusively defensive policy,” as well as to accelerate remilitarization.
“The real threat to Japan’s security, as well as to regional peace and stability, lies precisely in its reckless attempts to build up military potential and accelerate remilitarization. The nightmare of war must not be repeated, and peace must be protected,” Chen Xi warned.
He called on the international community to unite and act coherently to contain the rise of Japanese neo-militarism and prevent it from plunging the world into chaos.
