Beijing, August 7 /Xinhua/ — The Ministry of Water Resources of China has maintained the Level 4 emergency flood response in both Shaanxi Province in northwest China and Heilongjiang Province in the northeast of the country, the ministry announced on Thursday.

Five working groups sent by the ministry provide assistance and oversee flood control measures on the front lines and related work in Heilongjiang Province, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (Northern China), and Hainan Province (Southern China), among other regions.

From 8:00 AM Wednesday to 8:00 AM Thursday, due to rainfall, the water level on 15 rivers in Shaanxi Province and Yunnan Province in southwest China exceeded the danger mark.

The Ministry of Water Resources has appealed to the authorities of the relevant regions with a call to ensure the safety of reservoirs and silt accumulation dams during flood periods, as well as to take measures to prevent floods on small and medium rivers, as well as natural disasters related to mountain stream flows.

Recall that China has a four-level flood emergency response system, with the first level being the most serious.
