Beijing, August 6 /Xinhua/ — The Ministry of Finance of China and the Ministry of Emergency Management of China on Wednesday allocated 330 million yuan /about 48.61 million US dollars/ from the central disaster relief fund to eight provincial-level regions affected by flooding.
They include the provinces of Heilongjiang, Liaoning, and Jilin in the northeast of the country, the centrally administered city of Chongqing, the provinces of Sichuan, Guizhou, and Yunnan in the southwest of the country, as well as the province of Shaanxi in northwest China.
Due to the fact that the main flood season in China occurs from late July to early August, large areas of the country have suffered from prolonged heavy rains, which caused floods and geological disasters resulting in human casualties and the destruction or damage of residential buildings.
The allocated funds are intended for carrying out emergency rescue operations and disaster response activities, with a focus on search and rescue efforts, evacuation, and temporary accommodation of populations affected by natural disasters, emergency response measures, identification and elimination of both hazards and risks, as well as latent threats and risks that could cause secondary disasters, and repair of damaged housing.
