Beijing, August 5 /Xinhua/ — China expresses strong protest against the United States’ excessively broad interpretation of the concept of national security and its abuse of state power to unjustifiably pressure Chinese enterprises. This was stated on Wednesday by the official spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian.
Lin Jian made a corresponding statement commenting on reports that the United States is developing a regulatory ban on the import of new Chinese optical transceivers, as well as preparing to impose customs duties and establish a minimum price threshold on polysilicon and related products.
“Protectionism is incapable of increasing the competitiveness of the United States,” stated the Chinese diplomat, pointing out that the actions of the American side seriously hinder normal trade and economic contacts between Chinese and American enterprises and do not serve anyone’s interests, including those of companies and consumers in the United States.
“The Chinese side will continue to resolutely defend the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises,” emphasized Lin Jian.
