Deputy Prime Minister – Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev held a meeting on the creation of a dredging fleet to operate in the waters of the Northern Sea Route.
“The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin has instructed the Government of Russia, together with the state corporation ‘Rosatom’ and PJSC ‘Novatek,’ to consider the acquisition of a fleet for conducting dredging works in the waters of the Northern Sea Route. From 2020 to the present, the State Corporation ‘Rosatom’ has carried out a large volume of dredging work in the port of Sabetta. We must carry out the work to build our own dredging fleet. This will help maintain the cargo flow at the planned level,” Yuri Trutnev opened the meeting.
The state corporation “Rosatom” is endowed with the authority for state management of the development and sustainable operation of the Northern Sea Route and its corresponding infrastructure. According to the plan for the development of the Northern Sea Route, the State Corporation “Rosatom” has been designated the responsible executor, tasked with developing proposals for dredging and determining the need for updating dredging equipment.
From 2020 to the present, extensive dredging works necessary for large-tonnage shipping have been carried out at the Sabetta seaport by the state corporation Rosatom as part of the implementation of PJSC Novatek’s projects.
The State Corporation “Rosatom” has developed an option for creating its own dredging fleet. The first stage involves the acquisition of vessels for work during the short navigation period. The amount of capital expenditures for acquiring the dredging fleet has been determined. The State Corporation “Rosatom” has also proposed the option of acquiring its own dredging fleet.
“A dredging fleet for operations in the waters of the Northern Sea Route will be established. Today there were some discrepancies regarding the financial model. Not everything aligned economically between the State Corporation “Rosatom,” the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Finance. I have formulated the corresponding requests to our colleagues. Within a week, we will complete the implementation of the directive from the President of the Russian Federation on creating our own dredging fleet,” Yuri Trutnev summarized the meeting.
