Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov, based on data from Rosstat, presented information on tourist trips in Russia for January – June 2026.
According to these data, Russians made 43.2 million trips within the country over six months – 4.3% more than a year earlier, while inbound tourism also showed positive dynamics: in the first half of the year, Russia was visited by 2.5 million foreign tourists, which is 20.1% higher than the figure for the same period last year.
“On the eve, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin noted that the contribution of tourism and the hospitality industry to GDP has been increasing over recent years. At the end of last year, it exceeded 3%. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the national project ‘Tourism and Hospitality,’ implemented on the instructions of our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. It is important that the development of infrastructure and the creation of new routes, both in traditionally tourist regions and those gaining popularity, lead to a concrete result — an increase in the number of tourist trips to 43.2 million over six months. This is 4.3% more than in the first six months of the previous year. International appeal is also rising: inbound tourism increased by 20.1%,” reported Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The top ten leaders in the number of tourist trips included Moscow (6.4 million), Krasnodar Krai (4.2 million), Moscow Oblast (3.3 million), Saint Petersburg (3.3 million), Republic of Tatarstan (1.5 million), Sverdlovsk Oblast (1.1 million), Tyumen Oblast (980 thousand), Rostov Oblast (864 thousand), and Stavropol Krai (800 thousand).
The number of incoming trips by foreign citizens exceeded 2.5 million, with record growth rates noted in the Magadan Oblast, Zabaykalsky Krai, Amur Oblast, Republic of Buryatia, Perm Krai, Republic of Mari El, Vladimir Oblast, Kurgan Oblast, Chuvash Republic, and Republic of Khakassia.
“We see how tourists’ preferences are changing: the popularity of resorts in the North Caucasus, the Volga region, the Golden Ring, the Northwest, and the Urals is growing. The cancellation of visas with China has given a powerful boost to the Far East – there the number of foreign guests has multiplied. After last year’s decline, Anapa is recovering. More and more people are traveling within their own region – this is evident from the growth in the Moscow, Leningrad, and Sverdlovsk regions. All this is the result of work within the framework of the national project ‘Tourism and Hospitality,’ and we will continue to develop infrastructure and promote new routes,” noted Maksim Reshetnikov.
