Beijing, August 4 /Xinhua/ — China has published a mandatory national safety standard for autonomous driving systems. This was reported on Tuesday by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the PRC.
The standard, approved by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the State Committee for Standardization, will come into effect on July 1, 2027.
According to the ministry, the standard applies to category M and N vehicles equipped with autonomous driving systems of levels 3 and 4, but does not cover automatic parking systems.
According to the document, manufacturers must improve safety mechanisms throughout the entire product lifecycle, conduct model, test track, and road tests during the development and verification of autonomous driving systems.
The standard requires expanding the capabilities for performing dynamic driving tasks, as well as establishing requirements related to human-machine interaction and user information to prevent incorrect and excessive use.
Vehicles with level 3 systems must be equipped with a function to monitor the driver’s readiness to take over control.
In the long term, the ministry plans to strengthen market access management for intelligently connected vehicles, continuously improve testing methods for autonomous driving systems, and accelerate the creation of an effective monitoring system for intelligently connected vehicles to ensure high-quality development of the industry. –0–
