Beijing, August 4 /Xinhua/ — The National Meteorological Center /NMC/ of China on Tuesday extended the “yellow” alert for heavy rains and the “blue” alert for severe convective weather, as extreme weather is expected in several regions of the country over the next 24 hours.
Thus, from 8 a.m. on Tuesday to 8 a.m. on Wednesday, heavy or torrential rains may fall on regions such as Heilongjiang, Shaanxi, Hubei, Yunnan, Guangdong provinces, as well as the centrally administered city of Chongqing and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GXAR), according to data from the National Meteorological Center (NMC).
Short-term heavy precipitation is expected in the aforementioned regions, with the maximum amount of precipitation reaching 50 mm per hour, and even exceeding 80 mm in some areas, accompanied by severe convective phenomena such as thunderstorms, storm winds, or hail, according to the message from the NMC.
The aforementioned agency recommends that local authorities increase traffic control on road sections damaged by rain, suspend work at open sites, and evacuate residents from high-risk zones and dilapidated housing.
On Tuesday, the center also updated the “blue” warning due to severe weather conditions, warning that regions such as the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, as well as northeastern and northern parts of China, are expected to suffer from thunderstorms or hail.
