Israeli forces carried out new strikes on Gaza and violated Lebanese airspace more than a hundred times – despite existing ceasefire agreements. This was reported on Monday by UN agencies and the “blue helmets.”
On Friday, the Quartet, led by the United States and operating under the 20-point plan approved by the Security Council, announced a transition to the disarmament phase in Gaza. Hamas representatives stated that they accept the proposed roadmap. The Israeli government, for its part, announced on Sunday that it has “serious security concerns” and does not intend to withdraw troops from Gaza until Hamas is completely disarmed.
Strike near the hospital
Over the weekend, Israeli airstrikes, artillery shelling, and gunfire continued across the entire territory of the sector, reported the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). According to media reports, at least 25 people were killed.
On Saturday, a strike near the Al-Aqsa hospital destroyed a warehouse with critically important medical supplies. This happened against the backdrop of an acute shortage of medicines and essential items.
The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that more than 150 deaths were registered in the sector in July. This is the highest monthly figure since the beginning of the year, noted UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq. Most of the strikes hit the western part of the sector, where almost the entire population of about 2.1 million people is currently concentrated.
Meanwhile, on the occupied West Bank, there is a continuing surge of violence by Israeli settlers. According to the OHCHR, July became one of the deadliest months for Palestinians as a result of such attacks since the war began in October 2023.
The situation surrounding Lebanon
In the northern part of the region, UN peacekeepers record daily violations of Lebanon’s airspace. According to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), 125 such incidents were registered from Thursday to Sunday, and the total time Israeli aircraft spent in the sky exceeded 418 hours.
Reconnaissance and armed drones were observed in the sky near peacekeepers’ positions. The UNIFIL also reports large-scale military activity on the ground, including engineering works and troop movements.
According to data from the Lebanese authorities, since Hezbollah’s involvement in the regional conflict following the strikes by the USA and Israel on Iran, more than 4,300 people have died and over 12,200 have been injured in Lebanon.
