Dar es Salaam, August 2 /Xinhua/ — Eight people died and 66 others were injured on Sunday as a result of a collision between two passenger buses in the Dodoma region in central Tanzania, local authorities reported.
The incident occurred at dawn in the village of Ibihwa in Bahi district. A bus traveling from the city of Mwanza to the city of Dar es Salaam collided with another bus moving in the opposite direction.
The regional commissioner, Rosemary Semyamule, stated that seven victims died at the scene, and another succumbed to injuries at the regional hospital in Dodoma.
As she clarified, according to the preliminary conclusion, the accident occurred after one of the drivers attempted to overtake another vehicle, ignoring the necessary safety measures.
Medical service representatives reported that the injured passengers were taken to the regional hospital. Several of them are in critical condition and are currently receiving specialized medical care. –0–
