Yerevan, July 31 /Xinhua/ — Armenian-Chinese relations are at a high level and developing in several areas, especially after the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries in 2025. This was stated by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, First Deputy Minister of Defense of the country Edward Asryan, at a solemn event on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA), held on Thursday at the Chinese Embassy in Armenia.
“Armenian-Chinese relations are at a high level of political dialogue, as evidenced by the visit of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to the PRC in 2025,” he said. According to the Chief of the General Staff, Armenian-Chinese ties are based on traditional mutual respect, harmony, mutual understanding, and are multifaceted.
“The development of cooperation with the People’s Republic of China in the defense sector is a key focus of the leadership of the Republic of Armenia. In this context, continuous practical contacts at the level of defense department heads are especially important to us. Our cooperation in the security sphere is being actively strengthened,” stated E. Asryan.
He also reported that, in accordance with the annual bilateral cooperation programs, the process of exchanging delegations is being successfully carried out, expert-level working meetings are held in all areas of mutual interest, and close ties in the field of military science have expanded.
The Chinese Ambassador to Armenia, Li Xinwei, who spoke before the guests, noted that “the Chinese army considers its mission not only to ensure national security and protect national dignity but also to maintain peace worldwide, as well as to counter wars and prevent them.” The diplomat also reminded that the Chinese armed forces are among the most active participants in UN peacekeeping and other operations, and they also widely participate in humanitarian missions during natural disasters. –0–
