Washington, July 30 /Xinhua/ — The so-called “Council of Peace” reached an agreement on Thursday for the “complete disarmament” of HAMAS and all other armed groups in the Gaza Strip. This was stated on the social network Truth Social by the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
“This agreement is an important step towards Gaza finally being governed by a new Palestinian government that will work closely with the Peace Council to help the Palestinian people,” he wrote. “At the same time, Israel will enjoy the security it deserves, as Gaza will no longer be used as a base for terrorist attacks,” added the White House chief.
The agreement will be implemented in stages, said D. Trump, noting that as disarmament is completed, Israel will withdraw its troops from the Palestinian enclave, and international stabilization forces together with the new Palestinian police will take over responsibility for the security of the Gaza Strip.
The agreement was reached through the mediation of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, added the president.
