Tbilisi, July 30 /Xinhua/ — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of 250 million U.S. dollars to Georgia to implement the project for the construction of the Tbilisi Bypass Road, aimed at developing transport infrastructure and strengthening regional transport connectivity. This was reported on Thursday by the ADB representative office in Georgia.
As reported by the ADB, financing will be provided for the construction of two sections of the bypass road — from Tbilisi International Airport to Lokhini and from Lokhini to Rustavi, as well as the construction and reconstruction of access and service roads.
The project involves the construction of an 18.9 km four-lane section, which will allow a significant part of the East-West highway to be renewed.
Leslie Berman, Director of the ADB representative office in Georgia, noted that Georgia’s geographical location creates conditions for its transformation into an important transport and logistics hub between Europe and Asia.
