Chongqing, July 30 /Xinhua/ — The death toll from the landslide in the centrally administered city of Chongqing /Southwest China/ has risen to 51, with another 10 people still listed as missing. This was reported on Thursday by the rescue operation headquarters at the scene.
According to rescuers, a total of more than 1100 local residents were evacuated from the disaster area. Three out of ten rescued people have already been discharged from medical facilities.
A geological disaster caused by heavy rains occurred on July 17 at 09:08 at one of the sections of the coast of the Wujiang River in the Pengshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County. More than 10 residential houses were buried under the mountain rock.
At present, the ground search operation is complete, while underwater searches and clearing of the riverbed continue. Work is also underway to restore traffic movement and resume normal life activities. –0–
