Rome, July 30 /Xinhua/ — Italy and Saudi Arabia on Wednesday reaffirmed their support for the implementation of the “two states for two peoples” principle to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, calling for respect for the ceasefire regime in Gaza, increased humanitarian aid, and the resumption of efforts to ensure lasting peace.
This appeal is contained in a joint declaration published following the negotiations between the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Italy, Antonio Tajani, and the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, on the sidelines of the meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the “two states for two peoples” principle, which took place in Rome on July 28-29.
They emphasized the need to adhere to the ceasefire regime in Gaza, the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip, the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and support for the reform of the Palestinian National Authority.
The declaration affirms the rejection of any forms of annexation of the West Bank of the Jordan River or the forced displacement of Palestinians, and also emphasizes the importance of compliance with international law, including international humanitarian law.
