UN, July 30 /Xinhua/ — The UN Security Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution to extend for one year, until July 31, 2027, sanctions against armed groups operating in the Central African Republic /CAR/, as well as other individuals undermining peace in the country.
Resolution 2827, adopted unanimously by 15 council members, extends for the same period the mandate of the expert group that assists in the implementation of sanctions.
In 2024, the UN Security Council lifted the arms embargo on supplies to the government of the Central African Republic, but maintained the arms embargo on supplies to armed groups and related individuals operating in the CAR, as well as targeted measures on asset freezes and travel bans against legal entities and individuals designated by the Sanctions Committee.
