The application process has begun for the first citywide photo contest “The District Through the Eyes of a Resident.” Muscovites are invited to show how they see the city.

The competition is being held for the first time as part of the Moscow Mayor’s program “My District.” Its goal is to showcase the uniqueness of different districts of Moscow and give residents the opportunity to tell about routes and favorite places in the city through their own emotions.

Both amateurs and professionals over 18 years old can participate in the photo contest. To do this, you need to fill out an application atonline page of the photo contestAnd upload the photo by June 17 inclusive. You can submit one work in each nomination, no more than five photos in total for the contest. The shots do not necessarily have to be taken in the area where the participant lives. The main thing is that they correspond to the nominations and convey the author’s view of the city. The weather, time of year, or time of day in the photo can also be any.

Five ways to tell about the district

There will be five categories in the competition, each of which will give participants the opportunity to tell their story about the district in their own way.

In the nomination “Moscow Yard,” participants will need to take a photo of the capital’s yard. They can capture children’s and sports playgrounds, recreation areas, green corners, and stages from everyday life.

The nomination “A Day in the Life” implies a familiar urban scene: morning rush, walks, outdoor sports activities, car traffic, transport and infrastructure work. It is important that the focus is on the process, not a static landscape.

Another nomination is “Pets in Moscow.” Contest participants need to photograph pets in the city: in the yard, park, and on the walking area. They can be captured during walks, games, and communication with their owners or other people.

In the nomination “Nature of the District,” it is necessary to photograph the green and natural spaces of Moscow: parks, squares, boulevards, reservoirs, flower beds. And in the last nomination — “Pride of the District” — participants must necessarily show an object or place that they perceive as a symbol of the district. This can be a historical building, a public space, a monument, or an art object.

Selection of Winners

An expert jury will review the participants’ works and select a shortlist of finalists. The photographs will be evaluated according to several criteria, including relevance to the nomination theme, the author’s perspective, and the quality of execution. Then, 20 winners will be determined based on the voting results in the “Active Citizen” project.

The results of the competition will be summed up in August 2026. Photographs of the winners are presented in the exhibition “The District Through the Eyes of a Resident.”

“My District”— The program of the Mayor of Moscow for the development of the urban environment. Its goal is to create comfortable living conditions in all districts of the capital. Convenient courtyards, well-equipped parks, modern social infrastructure facilities within walking distance are important components of the program.
