Beijing, April 9 /Xin Hua/ — In the first quarter of 2026, the number of China-Europe trains departing from the China-SCO Regional Trade and Economic Cooperation Demonstration Zone (hereinafter referred to as the “China-SCO Demonstration Zone”), located in the city of Qingdao, Shandong Province (Eastern China), or arriving there, amounted to 253, an increase of 2.43% year-on-year. More than 170 thousand tons of cargo were transported on these trains. Both indicators reached new maximums for the same period in the history of the zone’s operation. This was reported by the information agency “Qiongsinsha” on its website with a link to the data of the Qingdao customs.

As of today, the China-SCO Demonstration Zone has regularly opened 22 international rail freight routes, covering 54 cities in 23 countries, including SCO member states and countries participating in the “Belt and Road” initiative. In the first quarter of the current year, China-Europe trains departing from or arriving in this zone mainly transported auto parts, air conditioners, aluminum ingots, and other goods.

To promote the high-quality development of the China-SCO Demonstration Zone and ensure the efficient operation of China-Europe trains, the local customs has implemented a fast customs clearance model, which allows for reducing the average waiting time of transit cargo in the port by one and a half days.

Relying on a multimodal transport hub, the China-CSTO demonstration zone fully utilizes the advantages of sea, automobile, air, and railway transportation to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of foreign trade logistics channels. Since the beginning of this year, it has continued to facilitate the construction of the CSTO international hub port, opening the fifth international automobile transport route within the TIR system.

The Deputy Heads of the Committee for the Management of the China-SCO Demonstration Zone Fu Zhunsua reported that this zone will continue to identify the advantages of the international cooperation platform, increase the openness of the logistics hub, and promote investment cooperation and trade-economic ties between SCO member states and the participant countries of the “Belt and Road” initiative. -0-
