International Tiger Day is celebrated annually on July 29th, established to draw attention to the issues of conserving these rare predators. The Amur tiger is one of the rarest animals in the world’s fauna. The main reasons for the decline in their population are the destruction of natural habitats, reduction of food sources, and poaching.
Rosneft pays special attention to the protection of wildlife and the support of sustainable ecosystem conditions. The company implements and supports programs for the study and preservation of wild animals in its regions of presence, including financing initiatives of the Autonomous Nonprofit Organization “Amur Tiger Center” (hereinafter – the Center). Cooperation has been developing since 2013 and is aimed at environmental protection in the Amur tiger’s habitat and increasing its population.
As part of this work, Rosneft funds the acquisition of machinery and equipment for state hunting inspectors who carry out control in specially protected natural areas of the Primorsky and Khabarovsk territories. The Company also supports rehabilitation and reintroduction centers for the Amur tiger: it provides feeding and veterinary support for the animals, purchases special equipment to prepare tigers for release into the wild. Specialists train the predators in independent hunting and help them adapt to conflict-free coexistence with humans.
The Company’s funds are also directed towards the development of a full-fledged protection system for the Amur tiger outside of reserve areas, the preservation of its food base, and the reduction of conflict situations between animals and humans.
As a result of the work carried out, the population of the Amur tiger in Russia was successfully increased to 750 individuals.
Among the projects of the Autonomous Nonprofit Organization “Amur Tiger Center” planned for 2026 are the creation of a wild animal rehabilitation center in the Khabarovsk Krai and an administrative complex for the hunting supervision service in the Jewish Autonomous Region. This region returned to the tiger’s range almost 50 years after the predators were exterminated. Thanks to the efforts of domestic specialists, the Amur tiger population in the Jewish Autonomous Region has already exceeded 20 individuals.

It is the only tiger subspecies adapted to life in harsh winter conditions. The Amur tiger is included in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and in the Red Book of the Russian Federation.
