Washington, July 29 /Xinhua/ — The US and Saudi Arabian armed forces carried out targeted airstrikes in Iraq on Tuesday against Iran-linked militants. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), this occurred after a series of drone attacks on American military personnel and Saudi energy infrastructure.
“US and Saudi Arabian fighters struck multiple terrorist logistical facilities and arms depots in eastern Iraq as a decisive response to more than 30 drone attacks ordered by the IRGC /Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps/ in the past 72 hours,” the CENTCOM statement said on the social network X.
“Unprovoked attacks on the armed forces of the United States were unsuccessful,” the post notes.
Iraqis militants linked to Iran have carried out more than 600 attempts to attack US citizens and facilities from February to April, the command reported. The IRGC and its “proxy forces” must stop such attacks, otherwise they will face further US military response, CENTCOM warned.
