Bandar Seri Begawan, July 28 /Xinhua/ — The Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, met on Tuesday in Bandar Seri Begawan with the Minister of Defense of the PRC, Dong Jun.
Hassanal Bolkiah reaffirmed Brunei’s unwavering commitment to the One China principle, highly appreciated the support from China for ASEAN’s central role, and expressed sincere gratitude to the Chinese side for assisting Brunei in realizing its “Vision 2035” /Wawasan 2035/.
Emphasizing that defense cooperation is one of the pillars of Brunei-China strategic cooperative and partnership relations, the Sultan noted that Brunei hopes for new visits by Chinese military vessels to its ports.
Dun Jun, for his part, stated that at present important favorable opportunities for cooperation are opening before the armies of China and Brunei. He called on the parties to seize the moment, to elevate interaction in all spheres to a new level, and to achieve new practical results in order to contribute even more to building a China-Brunei community with a shared future and to opening new prospects in bilateral relations.
The head of the Chinese defense department emphasized that peace in the South China Sea concerns the common interests of all countries in the region.
