Moscow, July 28 /Xinhua/ — Russia is ready for a full restoration of trade and economic cooperation with Japan if Tokyo abandons its unfriendly stance towards Moscow, supported by practical actions. This was stated in an interview with the portal “Development of the Arctic and the Far East” by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Andrey Rudenko.
“The Russian side is ready to restore full-fledged trade and economic relations, but only after Tokyo abandons its unfriendly stance towards our country, supported by concrete practical steps,” the diplomat said.
A. Rudenko emphasized that Japanese investors maintain their presence in energy projects in the Russian Far East, such as “Sakhalin-1” and “Sakhalin-2.” This presence continues even amid the complete halt of political dialogue between Moscow and Tokyo, while “interaction continues in certain sectors, such as fisheries and timber processing,” he added.
At the same time, A. Rudenko stated that Japan itself initiated sanction activities against Russia “in favor of Western solidarity” and continues them to this day.
