Beijing, July 28 /Xinhua/ — The United States recently launched an investigation under Section 301 on the pretext of “excess production capacity,” which is a typical act of unilateralism and seriously undermines the international economic order, a Chinese Ministry of Commerce official said on Tuesday.
The United States does not have the right to arbitrarily designate production capacities that simply exceed domestic demand as “excess capacities” and label them at its discretion, said Lin Weilong, director of the Policy Research Office of China’s Ministry of Commerce, at a press conference.
He added that the American side also has no right to unilaterally determine the presence of “excess production capacity” in its trading partners through an investigation under Section 301, nor to impose unilateral restrictive measures based on such a determination.
