Toronto, July 28 /Xinhua/ — A shooting occurred early Monday morning at the U.S. consulate in downtown Toronto. According to local media, this is already the second attack on this building this year.

Toronto police reported that the incident occurred around 4:45 AM local time. Since the building had already been shot at on March 10, a police unit was stationed there. The on-duty officer heard gunshots and noticed a white sedan without license plates speeding away from the scene.

The police began chasing a suspicious vehicle but stopped near a major highway for safety reasons due to the vehicle’s high speed and lack of aerial support. As a result of the shooting, the consulate facade was damaged; no reports of injuries have been received.

Earlier, the police arrested three suspects in connection with the shooting on March 10, describing the incident as a “contract killing” involving young people. However, according to a police statement, it is still too early to determine the motive for Monday’s shooting or to establish its connection to the previous incident.
