Kinshasa, July 27 /Xinhua/ — The number of confirmed Ebola fever cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo /DRC/ has reached 3,200, with the death toll rising to 1,405. This was stated in the latest epidemiological report published by the country’s health authorities on Sunday evening.
According to the report, as of July 25, 3200 confirmed cases of infection had been registered in the DRC, including 1405 deaths and 571 recoveries. There were 773 patients still in isolation. In the preceding 24 hours, 125 new confirmed cases and 51 deaths were recorded.
It is reported that the Ituri province remains the epicenter of the epidemic: it accounts for 89 percent of all confirmed cases.
The spread of the infection continues to be facilitated by population movements, an unstable security situation, artisanal mining, and cross-border contacts with Uganda and South Sudan. Authorities have stated that they will continue to strengthen epidemiological surveillance and expand response measures to contain the further spread of the virus.

The capacity of healthcare facilities continues to experience significant strain. For example, according to the report, in the North Kivu province, isolation wards had 171 patients despite having only 141 beds, resulting in an occupancy rate of 121.3 percent. Nationwide, the average hospital bed occupancy reached 82.1 percent.
