Moscow, July 26 /Xinhua/ — A state of emergency has been declared in the city of Rostov-on-Don in southern Russia, where more than 1,000 trees were knocked down and power lines were cut due to strong winds. This was reported on Sunday by the city’s mayor, Alexander Skryabin.
“Today, at an extraordinary meeting of the emergency commission, a decision was made to introduce a state of emergency in the city,” he wrote on the Telegram channel.
According to the city mayor, the number of residents affected by the bad weather has increased to 28. A total of 35,000 calls were received by the dispatch service from city residents. Municipal services recorded the fall of over 1,000 trees, 132 of which have been removed.
The elimination of the consequences of the natural disaster involves 25 emergency restoration teams, 253 people, and 47 pieces of equipment.
