Sansha, July 26 /Xinhua/ — A Vietnamese vessel was shipwrecked and sank near Yongshu Reef in the Nansha Archipelago in the South China Sea; as of 07:30 on Sunday, 37 people had been rescued. This was reported by the authorities of the Chinese city of Sansha.
All rescued individuals are Vietnamese citizens from the distressed vessel “Khoi Nguyen 18”. There were a total of 62 people on board.
On Saturday at approximately 18:23, the crew of the rescue vessel “Nanhai Jiu 115,” operated by the Nanhai Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Transport of the PRC, spotted a parachute rocket – presumably a distress signal from a vessel in distress at sea. Search and rescue operations were launched at the scene involving 6 Chinese ships, 1 rescue helicopter, and one Vietnamese vessel.
According to the Marine Rescue Service of Sansha city, the vessel “Khoi Nguyen 18” is registered in Vietnam, with a length of 69.9 meters and a width of 10.8 meters.
