Oslo, July 25 /Xinhua/ — Norway on Friday strongly opposed the new U.S. tariff of 12.5 percent on Norwegian imports, calling Washington’s unilateral measures unjustified.
“We strongly disagree with the unilateral application of tariffs by the United States against Norway and other countries. We also disagree with the justification for this new tariff,” said Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide in a statement.
The United States announced the introduction of an additional tariff of 12.5 percent on goods from Norway and dozens of other countries. It will replace the global additional tariff of 10 percent, which expires on Friday. Washington claims that these countries have not imposed a ban on goods produced using forced labor.
Norway considers the tariff unjustified, as clear rules already exist to prevent the trade of goods produced using forced labor, according to a statement by E. B. Eide.
