Cholpon-Ata /Kyrgyzstan/, July 25 /Xinhua/ — Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met on Friday with Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states in Kyrgyzstan.
Wan Yi noted that in May of this year, the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, made a successful state visit to China.
According to him, the most important outcome of the visit was the signing of the Treaty of Eternal Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation between China and Tajikistan, which became a precedent in Central Asia.
Wan Yi stated that the parties also issued a Joint Statement of the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Tajikistan on deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation and partnership into a new era, demonstrating their determination to jointly promote the building of a China-Tajikistan community with a shared future.
He added that the common task of the foreign policy departments of the two countries is to transform the agreements reached by the two heads of state into concrete actions, plan exchanges at various levels, and also promote the deepening and expansion of cooperation in areas such as energy, communications, counter-terrorism, and security, to ensure more results from cooperation that benefit the peoples of both countries.
S. Mukhriddin, in turn, noted that E. Rahmon’s visit to China this year was highly successful and yielded fruitful results, further strengthening the high level of mutual trust and opening a new chapter in bilateral relations.
He stated that China has become Tajikistan’s largest trade and economic partner, adding that Tajikistan is confident in the prospects of bilateral cooperation.
S. Mukhriddin emphasized that Tajikistan is ready to fully implement the agreements reached during E. Rahmon’s visit together with China, to strengthen practical cooperation in areas such as energy, jointly combat terrorism, and elevate the Tajik-Chinese comprehensive strategic partnership to a new era at a higher level. –0–
