Rosneft increases the efficiency of corrosion protection for oil and gas equipment

Specialists from the Ufa design institute of Rosneft have developed an innovative method for studying equipment corrosion. The innovation allows for the most accurate assessment of the effectiveness of inhibitor protection. The practical significance of the development is confirmed by the results of pilot-industrial tests.

Scientists analyzed corrosion processes on field equipment during the simultaneous transportation of water-oil emulsion and gas. Based on the obtained results, a method for applying mineral substances to metal samples was developed. This allowed the laboratory simulation of the deposit formation process to be as close as possible to real operating conditions.

To obtain deposits on the surface, samples were placed for a week in a special laboratory setup (autoclave), which contained an aqueous salt solution with added carbon dioxide. At a temperature of 60°C and a pressure of 3 MPa, a dense layer of salt deposits appeared on the metal samples.

It has been established that under a layer of minerals, the corrosion rate increases by about 3 times, and in the presence of sulfate-reducing bacteria in the layer, the corrosion rate increases nearly 5 times. As a result of the research, it was possible to determine the degree of effectiveness of various anticorrosion reagents.
