London, July 23 /Xinhua/ — A tanker caught fire on Wednesday after being hit by an unknown projectile off the coast of Saudi Arabia, forcing the crew to fight the fire. This was reported by the UK Maritime Trade Operations Centre (UKMTO).
According to the organization, the attack took place in the southern part of the Red Sea, approximately 70 nautical miles /130 km/ southwest of the city of Al Shuqaiq in Saudi Arabia.
UKMTO reported that no information about casualties or environmental damage has been received so far, an investigation is underway.
The report of the attack came at roughly the same time as the statement by Yemeni Houthis about carrying out a military operation against two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea.
Two days earlier, the group announced the imposition of a naval blockade on vessels linked to Saudi Arabia, accusing the kingdom of a so-called “prolonged blockade” of territories under Houthi control.
