Beijing, July 23 /Xinhua/ — China has officially released its development plan for the renewable energy sector /RES/ for the period of the 15th Five-Year Plan /2026-2030/, the National Energy Administration of China announced on Thursday.

The aforementioned administration and the State Committee for Development and Reform of the PRC jointly published a plan stating that by 2030, China’s renewable energy sector will enter a new stage of development characterized by expanded scale, improved quality, and a reliable replacement of traditional energy sources.

According to the plan, by 2030 the total consumption volume in the renewable energy sector is expected to reach approximately 1.8 billion tons of coal equivalent.

It is forecasted that by 2030 the total installed capacity of renewable energy power generation facilities will reach about 3.5 billion kW, and the annual electricity production will be approximately 6 trillion kWh. It is expected that the total installed capacity of power plants in the wind energy and solar energy sectors will exceed 2.8 billion kW, and the annual electricity production will be 4 trillion kWh.

Renewable energy sources refer to energy that can be continuously replenished and restored through natural processes over a relatively short period of time. These include energy from water, wind, and the sun, as well as energy from biomass, geothermal energy, and ocean energy. New energy sources are understood as all renewable energy sources except hydro energy.
