Deputy Chairman of the Government of Russia Alexei Overchuk held a meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan together with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin. The event took place via videoconference, with representatives of the relevant departments, ministries, and agencies of Russia and Kazakhstan participating.
The parties discussed current issues of trade-economic and humanitarian cooperation. The co-chairs of the IPC paid special attention to the development of interaction in the fields of transport and logistics, customs administration, industrial cooperation, culture, and prospects for deepening integration processes within the Eurasian Economic Union.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted positive dynamics in mutual trade: in the first five months of 2026, the foreign trade turnover between Russia and Kazakhstan increased by 15.2% and approached 12.2 billion dollars, with Russian exports to Kazakhstan rising by 17.5% and supplies from Kazakhstan increasing by 9.8%.
The highest growth rates are demonstrated by trade in agricultural products and food between countries: in 2025, growth amounted to 17.8%, Russia’s exports to Kazakhstan increased by 15.2%, Russia’s imports from Kazakhstan — by 34.7%, and in January–April 2026, turnover grew by 30.3% compared to the same period in 2025, with Russia’s exports to Kazakhstan rising by 27.1% and imports from Kazakhstan by 49.6%.
The meeting also addressed issues of strengthening transport connectivity, in particular the progress in developing and effectively utilizing the eastern route of the ITC “North-South”.
When reviewing projects in the field of humanitarian cooperation, the events of the Days of Culture of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Kazakhstan, which began in April 2026 in Astana, were named as an important component of interaction.
The co-chairs emphasized that the negotiations are taking place on the eve of the 22nd Forum of Interregional Cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan, scheduled to be held on July 24-25 in Omsk.
The parties confirmed their readiness to continue constructive dialogue on all areas of cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
