Muscovites continue to actively support the participants of the special military operation (SMO), as well as the residents of new and border regions. Thousands of compassionate people unite their efforts daily to help those who need it most. For example, students, parents, and teachers of the state budgetary general education institution of the city of Moscow “School No. 2087 ‘Discovery'” collect packages with humanitarian cargo, as well as visit fighters at the Main Military Clinical Hospital named after Academician N.N. Burdenko. They perform concerts, give gifts, bring children’s letters and drawings, and also listen to stories from the lives of military personnel.
“Assisting participants of the Special Military Operation in the capital’s schools is a vivid example of how kindness and support from young to old transform into a powerful force that unites the entire city. By their example, teachers and parents inspire students, showing that even a small gift from the heart holds great significance. We systematically support initiatives and help educational organizations turn good intentions into real actions,” noted Alexander Levit, director of the Mosvolonter resource center.
From young to old
Moscow school No. 2087 “Otkrytie” began helping participants of the special military operation in December 2022. The teachers decided to congratulate the soldiers on the New Year and delight them with gifts. Together, they collected more than 50 boxes with food and clothing for the servicemen. The teachers contacted a volunteer organization in the Kursk region, where they learned what is currently needed at the front to make the support effective.
Today, more than four thousand people have joined the effort — students from various grades, parents, teachers, and preschool groups. The process is systematic: first, requests are received from Kursk volunteers, then lists are passed on to classes, and humanitarian cargo is collected. A special room is allocated in the school for food and essential goods, where students sort, pack, label, and prepare the shipments for dispatch. Along with the boxes, volunteers deliver letters containing words of support and kind wishes for the defenders.
“Every year we send several large trucks with the most essential supplies for the participants in the Special Military Operation: in autumn, for the New Year, for February 23, and in spring. Four shipments a year is a very serious volume. It is important to us that each collection is substantial and addresses urgent needs, so we gather what the soldiers themselves request: food, clothing, sterile dressings, medical tourniquets, medications, personal hygiene products, and even tools,” said Irina Voevodina, advisor to the director for upbringing at school No. 2087 “Otkrytie.”
The teaching staff personally maintain contact with participants of the special military operation, among whom are their colleagues defending the Motherland. Teachers receive video messages and letters in which servicemen express gratitude for the support. For them, the warm responses from the soldiers are the main reward.
This year, the school began cooperating with the resource center “Mosvolonter.” Students also bring necessary goods to the headquarters collecting humanitarian aid. “Moscow Helps”. This is another reliable channel for cargo transportation.
Support continues
