Tehran, April 8 /Xinhua/ — The first ship passed through the Strait of Hormuz, having received ‘permission’ from Iran, after the ceasefire between the USA and Iran came into effect on Wednesday morning. This was reported by the Iranian semi-official news agency Mehr.
The MarineTraffic ship tracking service also reported on the social network X that after the cessation of fire, ship movements in the Strait of Hormuz resumed.
On April 7, US President Donald Trump announced that he agreed to “pause bombings and attacks on Iran for two weeks,” adding that the “condition” for making this decision was Iran’s agreement to fully, immediately, and safely open the Hormuz Strait.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that during the two-week ceasefire, Iran will ensure the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with its armed forces. The minister emphasized that Tehran will stop “defensive operations” if attacks against it cease.
In the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, it was stated that the Jewish state will observe a ceasefire but will continue to strike Lebanon.
