Beijing, July 21 /Xinhua/ — China and Europe should firmly adhere to partnership as the main theme in bilateral relations, refrain from politicizing trade and economic issues and from generalizing the concept of security during exchanges, and aim for a long-term achievement of an ascending dynamic balance in trade. This was stated on Tuesday by the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Wan Yi, who is also a member of the CPC Central Committee Politburo, made the corresponding statement during a meeting in Beijing with an interparty delegation of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, led by committee chairman David McAllister.
Welcoming the delegation, which was sent for the first time by the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, the head of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out that China’s development represents the growth of peaceful forces, the strengthening of elements of stability, and a guarantee of prosperity and development, providing the greatest certainty for peace and development worldwide.
As the head of the Chinese foreign ministry indicated, the European Parliament exerts significant influence on the foreign policy of the European Union. In this context, he expressed hope that the delegation would intensify exchanges with various circles in China to help the EU form a rational and objective view of China and to carry out an active and correct European policy towards it.
Wan Yi emphasized that China and the EU are partners, not opponents, and that the interests of both sides are deeply intertwined. According to him, the Chinese side is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the European side in global affairs, promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and economic globalization that benefits all, and make a positive contribution to peace, stability, and prosperity worldwide.
D. McAllister, for his part, stated that the European Union attaches great importance to relations with China, highly appreciates its outstanding achievements in development, and opposes severing ties with it. As he pointed out, the EU welcomes the resumption of exchanges between the legislative bodies of both sides and is ready to intensify dialogue, deepen mutual understanding, and promote cooperation with China to facilitate sustainable and stable development of bilateral relations.
According to D. McAllister, the EU wishes to maintain close communication with China and strengthen cooperation with it in areas such as green development and climate change response. –0–
