Beijing, July 21 /Xinhua/ — The main suspect in the abduction and murder of a Chinese citizen in the Philippines was repatriated to China from the United States on Monday, the Ministry of Public Security /MPS/ of the PRC reported.

According to reports from the ministry and the media, two people, including a Chinese citizen named Xia, were lured to the Philippines in June 2024, where they were kidnapped and later killed by a criminal gang.

The investigation established that the suspect named Liu, who is the main person involved in this case, fled to the United States, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

Chinese police closely cooperated with law enforcement agencies of the United States, the Philippines, and the Republic of Korea throughout the investigation. A “Red Notice” was also issued for Liu by Interpol.

According to the IMO, the Chinese police consulted with US law enforcement agencies several times regarding the case, shared evidence with them, and made every effort to assist in the arrest and repatriation of the suspect.

Based on the information and evidence provided by the Chinese side, US law enforcement authorities arrested Liu in October 2024 and then returned him to China on Monday, the FBI said.

This case is another result of cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of China and the United States within the framework of implementing the important consensus reached by the heads of the two states, as well as another successful example of joint efforts by China and the United States to combat transnational crime, the ministry added.
