Beijing, July 20 /Xinhua/ — The Ministry of Water Resources of China announced on Monday the extension of the Level 4 flood emergency response in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GXAR, South China), as well as in Hubei and Hunan provinces (Central China).
From 8:00 Sunday to 8:00 Monday, heavy to torrential rains fell on the central and southern regions of the country. During the same period, the water level in eight small and medium rivers located in the areas of GCHAR, Yunnan, Guangdong and Anhui provinces and the city of Shanghai exceeded the warning level.
Based on the precipitation forecasts for the next 24 hours, the ministry issued warnings to 8 provincial-level administrative units, including the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, as well as the provinces of Hebei, Anhui, Jiangxi, Shandong, Hunan, and Guangdong, urging local authorities to ensure the safety of reservoirs during the flood season and to take measures to prevent floods on small and medium rivers, as well as natural disasters related to mountain torrents.
