Beijing, July 20 /Xinhua/ — China strictly adheres to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and firmly supports the activities of the UN, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday in Beijing.
Wan Yi, who is also a member of the CPC Central Committee Politburo, made this statement during a meeting with Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Guyana’s Permanent Representative to the UN and a candidate for the position of the next UN Secretary-General.
He said that China would participate in the process of selecting the next Secretary-General with a responsible and constructive approach and support the election of a Secretary-General who will strictly abide by the UN Charter, possess outstanding capabilities, be characterized by fairness and honesty, and fulfill his duties with full dedication, in accordance with the UN Charter.
