On July 1, 2026, 149 members of the Communist Party of China were awarded the honorary title of “Outstanding CPC Member.” Among them is Zhang Changqing, chairman of the Volunteers Association of Yanhu District, Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province.

Ten years ago, on a cold early morning, Zhang Changqing left his house on an errand and saw a utility worker eating a stale steamed bun, washing it down with cold water. What he saw deeply moved him, and he decided to start the charity project “Breakfasts of Kindness.”

On November 17, 2016, 30 municipal workers joined the project for the first time. Zhang Changqin told them and the local residents about the goals and significance of this charitable initiative, which gradually began to gain the understanding and support of an increasing number of people. Compassionate city dwellers started offering a helping hand one by one, while representatives of various social circles and organizations began to donate food and essential items.

To date, the Yanhu District Volunteer Association has already distributed more than 270,000 portions of free “breakfasts of kindness.” While the organization initially consisted of only a few people, it now has nearly 2,000 registered volunteers, and tens of thousands of local residents have been involved in the charity work.

In addition to the “Breakfasts of Kindness” project, the association has also launched charitable programs to help children in difficult life situations and to support the elderly.

“We will continue our work so that volunteer activities become an important force contributing to social progress and the enhancement of societal civilization,” noted Zhang Changqin.
