The 58th International Chemistry Olympiad concluded in Tashkent. More than 360 schoolchildren from 93 countries participated. Russian schoolchildren won four gold medals. One of the members of the Russian team, Arseniy Hasaneko (Moscow), became the absolute winner.
The winners of the Olympiad were congratulated by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov.
“Chemistry and new materials are vast, cross-cutting fields that largely determine humanity’s progress forward. These are the words of our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. The triumph of our guys at the International Chemistry Olympiad is a vivid proof that a generation capable of advancing domestic science to new horizons is growing up in Russia. These medals are not just awards, but a fusion of talent, the titanic effort of schoolchildren, and the wisdom of mentors who managed to ignite a spark in the hearts of students. Huge thanks to our champions and teachers for the brilliant result, and to the parents for their faith and strong support. I wish the medalists to continue the glorious traditions of Russian science and to inscribe their names in the domestic history of great discoveries,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov noted that the successes of the Russian team once again confirmed the high level of science education in the country.
“The Russian national team has won four gold medals for the third consecutive year. This is a clear demonstration that the Russian chemical school maintains its leading positions in the world. Behind each of your medals are years of preparation, support from mentors, and your perseverance. These awards are not just a result, but confirmation of your ability to seek unconventional approaches and solve complex problems. I am confident that this experience will be the foundation for your future scientific achievements. Congratulations and I wish you new victories!” – noted Sergey Kravtsov.
As part of the olympiad, theoretical and practical stages were conducted for the participants, each lasting five hours. Completing the tasks allowed a comprehensive assessment of the students’ knowledge, their ability to solve complex problems, and to test their laboratory skills.
The national team of the Russian Federation includes:
— Arseniy Gasanenko (International School of Blended Learning, Moscow),
— Yaroslav Kosolapov (Secondary General Education School No. 5 with Advanced Mathematics Studies, Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk Region),
— Igor Ustinov (School No. 1329, Moscow),
— Pavel Sheptunov (Presidential Lyceum “Sirius”, Krasnodar Krai).
The head of the national team is Associate Professor Alexander Belov from the Faculty of Chemistry at Lomonosov Moscow State University. His deputies are Mikhail Matveev, a junior researcher at the N.N. Semenov Federal Research Center for Chemical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Leonid Romashov, a chemistry teacher at Moscow School No. 192; and Maxim Kozlov, an engineer at the N.N. Semenov Federal Research Center for Chemical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) has been held since 1968. This prestigious competition is participated in by school students no older than 20 years from more than 90 countries worldwide. Each national team is represented by a team consisting of four participants and two accompanying mentors.
In 2025, at the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), all four Russian school students were also awarded gold medals.
