The Russian team showed an excellent result at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), which took place in Shanghai (People’s Republic of China). Six participants representing our country won 4 gold and 2 silver medals. The school students and their mentors were congratulated on their success at the prestigious intellectual tournament by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov.

“Congratulations to our team on their impressive result at the International Mathematical Olympiad. The guys became among the leaders among representatives from more than 100 countries. Their passion for mathematics and natural sciences lays the foundation for Russia’s future achievements! As is our good tradition, we express special gratitude to the parents and teachers,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

Sergey Kravtsov emphasized that the International Mathematical Olympiad is one of the oldest and most prestigious intellectual competitions in the world. The fact that Russian schoolchildren consistently achieve high results year after year speaks to the strength of the national education system and the talent of the students.

“Today we honor not just the winners of the olympiads – we welcome the future of domestic science. Each of your gold medals is the result of tremendous diligence and the inner strength that allows you not to back down in the face of the most difficult challenges. Behind personal victories stands the titanic work of teachers and mentors. We provide support to talented schoolchildren at the state level, including within the framework of the national project ‘Youth and Children.’ For our country, the achievements of the national team are a source of great pride. May this success be a starting point for you on a great journey to new scientific heights. I wish the kids bold ideas and brilliant discoveries for the benefit of our Fatherland. Please accept my sincere congratulations on your well-deserved awards,” said the Minister of Education.

The Russian Federation national team includes:

— Arina Prokudina, gold (Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 31, Chelyabinsk, Chelyabinsk Oblast);

— Andrey Shishko, gold (Lyceum “Second School” named after V.F. Ovchinnikov, Moscow);

— Roman Kravchenko, gold (Presidential Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239, St. Petersburg);

— Dmitry Grishko, gold (Fifty-seventh School, Moscow);

— Maksim Bolshakov, silver (boarding lyceum No. 2 of the Moscow district, Kazan city, Republic of Tatarstan);

— Alexander Skvortsov, silver (Presidential Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239, St. Petersburg).

As noted by the head of the coaching staff and resource center for supplementary education “Center for the Development of Mathematical Education” at the Presidential Physical and Mathematical Lyceum No. 239 in Saint Petersburg, Kirill Sukhov, this year the team participated in person for the first time after a 5-year break, without restrictions, and took 3rd place as a team.

The Russian national team was also assisted in preparation by Nazar Agakhanov, Associate Professor of the Higher Mathematics Department at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), Pavel Kozhevnikov, Associate Professor of the Higher Mathematics Department at MIPT, Alexander Kuznetsov, additional education teacher at the Presidential Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239 in Saint Petersburg, Fyodor Petrov, Professor at Saint Petersburg State University, and Maxim Pratusevich, Director of the Presidential Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239 in Saint Petersburg.

The 67th International Mathematical Olympiad took place starting July 10. It brought together participants from more than 100 countries across five continents. The intellectual competition consisted of two rounds, each with three problems. The questions covered various areas of mathematics, primarily geometry, number theory, algebra, and combinatorics.

Recall that in 2025, the Russian national team also won 6 medals: 5 gold and 1 silver.
